ConvertPort’s DVD to MP4 converter turns a VIDEO_TS folder into a standard MP4 file in your browser. You keep the original DVD files on your computer — nothing is uploaded — then download an H.264 MP4 you can play on phones, laptops, and the web.

How to convert VIDEO_TS to MP4

  1. Select

Choose the VIDEO_TS folder from a DVD copy on your computer, or drop it onto the page. You can also pick individual .VOB files.

  2. Choose title

Review the detected DVD titles. ConvertPort reads VIDEO_TS.IFO and the title’s PGC/cell map so episodes in the same title set stay separate. The longest title is marked as the main movie.

  3. Preview

Confirm you selected the right title. A preview frame is extracted locally when the MPEG-2 video can be decoded.

  4. Convert

Click Convert to MP4. The tool concatenates the title’s VOB files, deinterlaces DVD video, and encodes H.264 with AAC audio.

Popular use cases

  • Archive a personal DVD copy as a compact MP4 for phones and laptops.
  • Convert a VIDEO_TS folder from a home-video DVD without installing desktop ripping software.
  • Turn a single DVD title or bonus feature into a file you can edit or trim later.
  • Keep DVD backups private by converting them locally instead of uploading multi-gigabyte disc images.

Supported DVD files

Open a VIDEO_TS folder containing .VOB title files (VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, and so on). Optional .IFO files are used to read title duration. Export is H.264 MP4 with AAC audio. Copy-protected commercial DVDs are not decrypted.

Private browser-based conversion

DVD files never leave your device. ConvertPort concatenates VOB files and encodes MP4 locally with ffmpeg.wasm — the same on-device approach used by Trim Video and Split Video.

DVD conversion best practices

  • Select the VIDEO_TS folder itself, not only VIDEO_TS.IFO. Title video lives in VTS_xx_1.VOB and later parts.
  • Convert the main title first. DVD extras are separate, smaller titles and can be converted one at a time.
  • Feature-length titles can take a long time in the browser. Use a desktop computer with plenty of RAM, and keep the tab open until the download starts.
  • After export, use Trim Video if you only need a clip from the converted MP4.

Frequently asked questions about converting DVD VIDEO_TS to MP4

Do I need to upload my DVD files?

No. Choose the VIDEO_TS folder on your computer. The .VOB files are read locally in your browser and are not uploaded to ConvertPort.

What is a VIDEO_TS folder?

VIDEO_TS is the standard folder on a DVD-Video disc. It contains .VOB MPEG-2 video files, plus .IFO navigation files. ConvertPort concatenates the title VOB files and encodes them to MP4.

Can I convert a copy-protected commercial DVD?

No. This tool does not remove CSS or other copy protection. It works with VIDEO_TS folders from unprotected discs or copies you already decrypted yourself.

Why is conversion slow?

DVD video is MPEG-2 and must be re-encoded to H.264 for a compatible MP4. That work runs in your browser, so a two-hour movie can take a long time, especially on a laptop.

Which title should I convert?

The largest title is usually the main movie. Smaller titles are often extras, trailers, or alternate content. Convert one title at a time.

What is the size limit?

Each selected title can be up to 8 GB. Very large titles may fail on devices with limited memory because the encoded MP4 is built in the browser.
